INSTANT MERIENDA
|
INSTANT NOODLES Ready-to-eat instant noodles were invented by a guy named Ando. While his wife was cooking tempura, he noticed that when she deep-fried the tempura, the water particles in the batter would vaporize explosively, which created many sponge-like holes in the batter when the tempura was done. Then he discovered that when he poured water on the cooked batter it became soft instantly because the water soak through the holes. He invented a method to steep the noodles in a seasoned broth, deep-fry them, and then dry them. In 1958, Momofuku Ando named his instant noodles "Chicken Ramen," and later marketed a new product in a cup called "Cup Noodles" and his company Nissin Foods became one of the largest food companies in Japan. Today, instant noodles is a good choice for merienda.
MERIENDA The term “merienda” is Spanish for “afternoon snack” but Filipinos use the term for both the mid-morning and the mid-afternoon snacks. Instant noodles are excellent choices for merienda because they are quick and easy to prepare. All that you would need is boiling water, but you can crack an egg over it, or put other toppings such as shrimps, roast beef or assorted vegetables.
