BREAKFAST or SNACK MIXES
|
ALMUSAL The correct Tagalog term for breakfast is agahan, which describes an early meal. But to most Filipinos, breakfast is called almusal, a term corrupted from Spanish almuerzar, which actually means “to have lunch”! Pinoy breakfast is so heavy, you might as well call it brunch. But those carbs burn off easily especially in hot weather, so.. ok lang! magpakabusog ka sa almusal mo!
Start your week with champorado, (or tsampurado in Tagalog) a chocolate rice porridge. The word comes from the Spanish verb champurrar, which means to mix; so champurrado is an inflected form of the verb, which really means a hodgepodge. Champorado is so easy to make; simply put the right amount of water into the mix and bring it to a boil, enjoy the chocolate aroma as you stir slowly until cooked. Serve it in a bowl, swirl a spiral (or a smiley) of condensed milk over it, and eat it with bangus, daing, tuyo, sardines or even carne norte. With these mixes, you will enjoy a different Pinoy breakfast everyday.
